Jacob sheep are an incredible breed with an ancient history dating back nearly 3000 years, to Biblical times as the spotted sheep in Jacob's flock. They are an incredibly resilient, hardy breed, with mild demeanors, excellent mothering instincts, flavorful meat (without being "muttony") and gorgeous spotte fleeces.
The handsome and gentle Sweetgrass Celeron is our current herd sire. He has a stunning set of 4 horns, and manages his herd with with grace and ease. He is protective of our young lambs, and keeps his sometimes unruly adollescent ram lambs in check with the skill of both a good father and leader.
We currently have 4 registered ewes; Sweetgrass Izzy, Sweetgrass Hildy, Sweetgrass Winter, and Sweetgrass Scarlet. We have several ewes with registration paperwork underway, so that list should be growing soon!
Izzy is a 2-horned sweetheart, who will often be the first to come say hi. She has a unique eye patch that is sometimes reflected in her lambs. She is an excellent and protective mother and her lambs always thrive.
Scarlet has an impressive set of 4 horns. She is shy and incredibly protective of her babies, and has a gorgeous fleece with hints of lilac.
Hildy has long been the herd matriarch. She is kind and gentle, and is one of the most devoted mamas we've ever seen. She is 4-horned with a large percentage of brown fleece.
Winter is a watchful, gentle lady with a beautiful, sweeping set of 2 horns. She is a dedicated mama, calm and inquisitive, with a large percentage of white fleece.
Beatrice is a younger 2-horned mama, laid back and watchful. We expect her to follow in her dam's footsteps as one of the most friendly on the farm. She has a large percentage of black and it often shows in her offspring.
